Academic Delegation of SIGNAL & WJC Visited IWAAS

 

On the afternoon of October 19th, the academic delegation of Sino-Israel Global Network & Academic Leadership(SIGNAL)and World Jewish Congress(WJC), led by Carice Witte, visited the Institution of West-Asian and African Studies(IWAAS) and carried out comprehensive academic communication with scholars from IWAAS on issues including current situations in the Middle East, China’s role, Israel’s security, etc. The activity hosted by Professor Tang Zhichao was organized by the ‘Great Power & Middle East’ innovation team.

 

 

The SIGNAL & WJC delegation consisted of 8 scholars: Mr. David P. Goldman, expert of Middle East study and economics; Dr. Avinoam Idan, expert on Central Asian issues; Ms. Betty Ehrenberg, Executive Director for World Jewish Congress-United States and North America; Dr. Ori Goldberg, expert on counter-terrorism and Iranian issues; Mr. Marc Zell, vice president of Republicans Overseas Israel; and other experts as well.

 

Scholars from the United States and Israel had mainly presented their views and attitudes upon Trump’s Middle East Policy, Israel’s national security and Iranian threats, current situations in the ME, withdrawal of the U.S. from the nuclear agreement with Iran, Israel-Palestinian issues and the U.S. policy adjustments, etc. At the meeting, scholars from the U.S. also expressed a strong interest in issues such as education of major languages among the Middle East in China, employment of graduates in the government and international organizations, consulting functions and channels of Chinese think tanks and so on. Meanwhile, scholars from IWAAS offered explanations on China’s policy towards the Middle East and Iran, U.S. strategic adjustments on Israel-Palestinian issues -Palestinian issues, the role and contributions of China in the region, etc. while also putting forward questions including opinions about China-US trade war, evaluations inside the U.S. and Israel about containment of Iran in the past two years and current stability in Iran.

 

The symposium was held in the 1st meeting room in IWAAS. Over 10 scholars from IWAAS Professor Tang Zhichao(Director of Division of Middle East Studies of IWAAS), Professor Yu Guoqing, Professor Wang Feng(vice director of Division of Middle East International Relations of IWAAS)took part in the meeting.
