“Chinese and British Scholars’ Roundtable on Middle East Issues” Was Held in IWAAS

 

 

On September 18th, 2018, “Chinese and British Scholars’ Roundtable on Middle East Issues”, organized by “Power’s Middle East Strategies” innovative project group, was held in Institute of West-Asian and African Studies (IWAAS). Professor Yang Guang, president of the Chinese Association for Middle East Studies, hosted the roundtable.

Professor Eugene Rogan, Director of the Oxford Middle East Center, Professor Philip Robins, Dr. Michael Willis and Dr. Toby Matthiesen participated in the roundtable. Scholars from IWAAS comprehensively discussed with their counterparts on regional hotspot issues including the U.S., Russia and China’s Middle East policies, Turkey’s foreign policy, changes of China’s foreign policy, Israeli-Palestinian issue, Iran Nuclear Deal and U.S’s new sanctions against Iran, electoral politics and democracy in the Middle East, new regional order, China-Pakistan relations, the Belt & Road Initiative and the Middle East, Turkey’s currency crisis etc.
Over 20 scholars and graduate students from IWAAS participated in this roundtable.
