On March 19, 2019, Professor Meron Medzini from Sino-Israel Global Network & Academic Leadership (SIGNAL) visited the Institute of West-Asian and African Studies (IWAAS) and had discussions with IWAAS scholars. The symposium was presided over by Professor Tang Zhichao, Director of Division of Middle East Studies. Professor Yu Guoqing, Associate Professor Chen Mo, Professor Wei Min, Associate Professor Jiang Yingmei, Associate Professor Wang Qiong, Dr. Zhang Bo attended the symposium.
Professor Medzini had studied under Professor John King Fairbank, majoring in Chinese and Japanese history. He was the author of Golda-A Political Biography which won the Prime Ministers Award. Professor Medzini has been teaching at Hebrew University and Tel Aviv University, and had served as the Director of the Israel Government Press Office. Now, He is serving as a SINGAL researcher and had lectured in many universities in China.
In the symposium, Professor Tang Zhichao gave Professor Medzini and other visitors a warm welcome and introduced the history and research situation in IWAAS. Professor Medzini emphatically introduced Israel’s foreign policy, mainly focusing on the recent U.S.-Israel ties, relations among China, Israel and the U.S., and U.S.’s interference in the development of the Haifa Port. Combined with their own research interests, participants carried out in-depth academic exchanges with Professor Medzini.
