A delegation of the Institute of West-Asian and African Studies (IWAAS), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), led by Wang Lincong, the Deputy Director-general of IWAAS and President of the Gulf Research Center of CASS, visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the State of Qatar for academic exchange from February 23 to 28, 2025.

The delegation met with representatives from multiple institutions including the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA) in the UAE, the Middle East Council on Global Affairs (ME Council) in Qatar, the Global Institute for Strategic Research (GISR) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), and the Intellisia Institute Dubai Office‌.

At the meeting with Nickolay E. Mladenov, the Director General of the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, the delegation and the expert had in-depth discussions on promoting bilateral cooperation and co-hosting the International Symposium themed "China and the UAE: Innovative Development and Joint Pursuit of Modernization."

The delegation held substantive talks with experts from the Middle East Council (ME Council) on Global Affairs, focusing on situation in the Gulf, jointly promoting Belt and Road cooperation, and other topics. The two sides reached broad consensus on enhancing think tank collaboration.

When visiting the Global Institute for Strategic Research (GISR) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Qatar, the scholars exchanged views on strengthening mutual learning between Chinese and the Arab civilizations, promoting joint development and think tank cooperation, and other topics.

The IWAAS delegation members included Wei Min, Research Fellow of the Division of Economic Studies; Tong Fei, Deputy Director of the Division of Security Studies and Deputy Director of the Gulf Research Center of CASS; Liu Dong, Deputy Director of the Division of Economic Studies and Executive Secretary of the Gulf Research Center, CASS; and Wu Xi from the Bureau of International Cooperation, CASS.
