On September 18, 2020, a nine-member research team from the CAI came to Didong Village, Beibeng Township, Medog County, Linzhi City, Tibet Autonomous Region to conduct field investigations on poverty alleviation.
The research team was led by Li Xinfeng, executive vice president of the CAI and director of the IWAAS,the members include Zhang Yongpeng, researcher of the International Relations Research division; Wu Chuanhua,the executive deputy editor-in-Chief of "Journal of China-Africa Studies”; Researcher Li Wengang, director of the Ethnic and Religious Research division; Yuan Wu, researcher of the Security Research division, Ma Xueqing from the research management division, Dr. Shi Xiaoxi ,from the Political Research division, Dr. Zhang Mengying and Dr. Tian Muye.
The research team, accompanied by officials in charge of the Propaganda Department of Medog County; Solange Duojie, deputy mayor of the township, and Gao Rong, secretary of the CPC branch of the East Village, made a field visit to the poverty alleviation and new rural construction in the Didong Village. According to Gao Rong, the village is located near the China-India border, there are 118 households, 599 people.The villagers' main source of income is the cultivation of tea, as well as oranges, lemons, sugar cane and so on. After the poverty alleviation, the village is accessible to road, electricity, water, communications, radio and television, village health facilities and kindergartens, and equipped with 3 village doctors and 2 teachers.
The research team visited the Wangqian Luobu family, a farmer in Didong Village.The family of 10 members is still living in an old house, but will soon move to a new house built with support and subsidies from the government.According to government policy, the standard of relocation housing is 30 square meters per person, housing conditions will be greatly improved. Wangqian Luobu said his family and all the villagers are the beneficiaries of the country's poverty reduction and poverty alleviation policy, and they can have a happy day today, relying entirely on the CPC’s policy of favoring the people.
The research team visited the Di dong Village Health center.According to reports, the three village doctors in the health center took turns on duty. Village doctors can carry out some basic medical treatment and health and epidemic prevention, who can be timely and convenient for farmers to go to outpatient treatment.Bai Ma, a village doctor on duty, briefed the research team on the standardized management of epidemic prevention and control publicity, registration of drug access to health center, registration of information on pregnant women and children, etc.
Through this field study, experts from the CAI learned about the specific situation of poverty alleviation and building a moderate prosperous society in rural areas of China's border minority areas, providing first-hand information for better telling the story of poverty alleviation in Africa, and promoting China-Africa friendly cooperation, especially poverty reduction cooperation.
