Honorable M. Wang Lincong, Vice-President of the China-Africa Institute;

Honorable M. Fu Qiang, Director of China National Health Development Research Center;

Distinguished Members of the China-Africa Institute;

Distinguished Members of the China National Health Development Research Center;

Friends and Colleagues of the Diplomatic Corps;

Dear Representative of the Media;

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I warmly thank the Leaders of China-Africa Institute and China National Health Development Research Center for the invitation forwarded to me to participate in this important international symposium.

It is equally a pleasure to connect with you all present here and would like to assure you of my continued trust, encouragement and unequivocal support.

This year, Africa and China mark the 60th anniversary of their cooperation in the medical field.

Algeria is proud to have been the first country in Africa to which was sent the first China Medical Team in 1963.

In my capacity as Ambassador of Algeria to China, I pay tribute to all China Medical Teams whose work in Africa has taken the medical cooperation between Africa and China to a higher level of hard work and recognition.

Through the years, Africa and China have forged close cooperation towards the improvement of the health condition of the African people.

Some eminent sons and daughters of this great nation of China have made outstanding contributions to the promotion of health in the African Continent and many others have continued to make valuable contributions.

Together with their African colleagues, the Chinese doctors have experienced and managed the diverse health and humanitarian challenges confronting Africa.

I want to thank all China Medical Teams for the excellent support and the rich values, knowledge and experiences that they have shared with Africa over the past years.

I am pleased to take note of the fact that during the last 60 years China provided support to Africa in strategic areas such as Health Systems, Disease Prevention and Control of onchocerciasis; setting up of programs for HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, neglected tropical diseases and addressing the risk factors associated with non-communicable diseases; Technical and normative support have also been provided in the areas of Child, Adolescent and Maternal Health, and Ageing.

During the last recent years of combat against the COVID-19 pandemic, the commitment and grit shown by China to the developing countries were exemplary.

The Government of China and the Chinese companies, made an appreciable contribution to protect people, not only in China but  in the whole world through designing and manufacturing new materials  as well as providing all societies the necessary tools and means to face the pandemic in line with the spirit of the noble initiatives of HE President Xi Jinping, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Belt and Road Initiative.

The assistance provided by the Government of China to the developing countries was great, through the dispatching of medical teams to more than 70 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, with TCM personnel in every medical team. Considering this valuable contribution, there is now in the general opinion all reason to encourage the expansion of the use of TCM therapies and medication.

It is appreciative to know that by announcing plans to add traditional Chinese medicine to the Belt and Road Initiative, the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine is providing then new opportunities for both China and the world to complement one another and secure common development. It plans to build 30 overseas TCM centers and 50 international cooperation bases and service export bases in countries along Belt and Road routes during the Five Year-Plan period (2021-2025).

The research results of Youyou Tu's team on artemisinin and arsenic trioxide in the treatment of leukemia and malaria are highly indicated.

Having said that, I would like to end my talk by re-iterating my gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their cooperation and friendship with Africa during the last 60 years in the field of health. This collaboration has resulted in tangible results for both parties.

Algeria in particular and Africa in general are applauding the fruitful results of the ties with China and are highly appreciating the readiness of this great country  to continue to work with them to address all health issues as they move into the new era of their collaboration.

Wish you all success, prosperity and good health.

Thank you

.
