Professor Augustin Holl is a Cameroonian expert in archeology. He previously taught at Paris X University, University of Michigan, Xiamen University and many other prestigious universities. He is accomplished in African prehistoric archaeology and other fields of expertise, owning a high reputation in the academic circle of archeology in Africa and the world. Professor Augustin Holl is committed to promote people-to-people exchanges between China and Africa. He has taken part in many occasions of the China Lecture, Conference on Dialogue between Chinese and African Civilizations that were held by CAI. He has made major contributions to push forward the mutual learning of civilization between China and Africa in the new era.

Professor Li Xinfeng said, the research project “General history of Africa -- Africa-China relations” is one of the major projects sponsored by the National Social Science Fund 2021, and has been listed as a major project of the 14th Five-Year Plan by Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). As part of the research project topic, the study of “Africa-China relations” is based on a chronological order and focuses on the exchanges of African and Chinese civilization, and the development of win-win cooperation and mutual learning between China and Africa. It offers strong support for the studies of African historical development from the perspective of Chinese scholars. We hope that as a noted African scholar, professor Augustin Holl could give more advice on this project, said professor Li Xinfeng. Dr. Deng Yanting talked about the choice of the research topic, the arrangement of the chapters in the book, the research methods and progress of the project.

Professor Augustin Holl noted that the compilatory work of the book “General history of Africa” is a milestone in the people-to-people exchanges between China and Africa. It presents to the readers the achievements of Chinese scholars in African studies, while breaking up monopolies from western countries on expounding African history. It is well-rounded, well structured and invaluable, and plays a vital role in the works of the Chinese scholars who study the African history. Professor Augustin Holl said, the project could draw extensively on the views of the African academic circle, so that the communication between Chinese and African scholars could lead to the creation of a great academic work.

Professor Wang Xiaoming said, we hope professor Augustin Holl could continue to support CAI’s communication mechanisms such as the Three lecture, Conference on Dialogue between Chinese and African Civilizations and Forum on International students from Africa, and encourage more African scholars to take part in people-to-people exchanges between China and Africa. Chinese and African scholars should work together to tell more stories about the two nations and their strong friendship, and to help write a new chapter of mutual learning of Chinese and African civilization in the new era.
