Ambassador Ibrahima Sory Sylla reviewed the African history of enslavement and colonialism. He said, the Transatlantic slave trade and the colonialism are the main cause of slow development of the African continent which is regarded as lying on the periphery of global politic and economic systems. China also suffered from the Imperialist aggression. The similar history of the two nations has helped to pave the way for the stable development of China-Africa relations.

Main venue of the lecture

Both China and Africa took part in the Bandung Conference and the Non-Aligned Movement, which was the first time the developing countries tried to work together to fight against hegemonism under the principle of nonalignment and nonintervention. China and Africa are continuing to make joint efforts so as to advance the building of a new order for international politics that is sound and equitable, said ambassador Ibrahima Sory Sylla. China has been offering political support for Africa to strive for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council, while strengthening economic and trade cooperation with African countries under the umbrella of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and supporting them in the development of industrialization.

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Global Development Initiative (GDI) advocated by Chinese President Xi Jinping is a clear illustration of the idea of mutual respect and win-win cooperation in international relations. They could be conductive to reaching the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Ambassador Ibrahima Sory Sylla noted that African countries could learn from China’s experiences in infrastructure construction, industrialization, modernization of agriculture and poverty alleviation.
