HE Wenping, The Impact of Trump's Election on Africa and China-Africa Relations

  Contemporary World, No.4, 2017

Abstract: Trump won the US presidential election is not only out of expectation for African countries, but also be widely regarded as having negative impact on Africa's future development. African intellectuals, media and government circles are all not taking optimistic view towards the future of U.S. -Africa relations. They worry about that the so-called “American First” which Trump advocated and the trade protectionism will make Africa more marginalized in the US global foreign and economic policy. Therefore, African countries will move quicker and closer to China to cement the Sino-African cooperation in order to make up for the shortage and marginalization of development funds caused by the departure of the US.
